FUNCTION: Implements complex statistical analysis plans, constructs comprehensive reports of analysis results. Performs complex data manipulation and implements advanced programming techniques. Demonstrates independent thinking in approaching difficult problems. Remains abreast of—and implements—new methodological developments with potential applicability to clients’ research projects. Experience in applying methods for large and complex datasets, including machine learning techniques. Handles multiple tasks simultaneously, can work independently as well as in a team environment. 


  • Analyze datasets using complex analyses in R, with SAS and Python a plus. 
  • Organize and document results, code, and datasets.
  • Conduct statistically valid and scientifically appropriate data analyses.
  • Analyze, interpret, and display data using statistical and graphical tools.
  • Write regular and custom reports of findings for clients.
  • Read and understand current scientific literature.
  • Develop or modify available software to implement methodology
  • Prepare written scientific communications, including drafting methods and results sections for scientific presentations, manuscripts, and technical reports
  • Interface with colleagues and clients on all design, analysis, and reporting tasks for assigned projects


  • MS degree in applied mathematical sciences (statistics, biostatistics) or BS degree with 5 years' experience with R or Python programming.
  • Strong programming skills (i.e., R, SAS, Python) and familiarity with data visualization techniques as well as modern statistical methods for large datasets and high dimensional data. Knowledge of AI and natural language processing a plus.
  • Ability to create custom interactive applications for data processing, visualization, and analysis (i.e., R Shiny)
  • Experience reading and understanding scientific journal articles related to statistical methodology and machine learning techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to implement modern machine learning techniques beyond basic regression and classification, for example by applying available open-source analytics and machine learning packages.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to examine data in depth with attention to scientific context to verify statistical assumptions and identify solutions to problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Could work on multiple projects simultaneously and should enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment with quantitative and life scientists.
  • At least 2 years of experience with biological and/or environmental health data preferred but not required.


The position may be remote or office-based in Durham, North Carolina or Silver Spring, Maryland, if the candidate is able to maintain approximate normal business hours (EST).
